Merrickville

About an hour south of Ottawa, is the small town of Merrickville. Merrickville is a quaint little town which is home to a bustling art community, old styled buildings, and numerous tourist attractions. My aunt Judy owns a farm near here, so we took some time to explore the town.

The library for my librarian reader.

The history of this town is rather interesting. In the fifties, the trains stopped coming to Merrickville, and the town essentially stopped developing. For forty years, Merrickville became a ghetto for people from Ottawa who didn't have enough money to live in the city. Only recently did the town use its Upper Canada inspired design as a selling point for tourists. Mixing the classic architecture with the historic Rideau Canal, Merrickville became the ultimate tourist destination for the people of Ottawa who want to stay close to home.

  1. Seems like a cute little town. Mookie library! (Mookie is a word my Aunt and I use to describe cute, small things)

    Happy trails, Michael.
