New Liskeard

Today my mother said that she wanted to be out of the house and on the road by 10am. No problem; we packed our things, loaded the dogs, made one last check around the house, and and were on the road by noon. The road to Timmins follows along the Quebec border, so over the course of the day we encountered many Frenchmen, and saw towns which were extremely bilingual. You know that Ottawa has to be, but seeing all these small towns doing it as well is quite interesting.

As the day went on, we realized that it would probably be fairly dark by the time we arrived at my aunts cottage near Iroquios Falls. Knowing that it would be foolish to continue in the dark, we decided to stop at New Liskeard, the last large town (only 10,000 total pop) en route.

I was quite surprised with the town, New Liskeard is much smaller than Fort McMurray, yet it has many of the same services and even some of which are superior. First of all, this town has a Harvey's. For those of you who don't know, imagine Subway, but instead of subs, this place makes hamburgers. Secondly, the Wal-Mart here is a Super-Center. This place a town of 10,000 has a Wal-Mart Super Center, but Fort McMurray doesn't yet? Come one, how much longer are the people of Fort Mac supposed to wait?

No matter, we found a hotel along the highway, and took a suite for the night. From the highway the place looked like a dive, especially with the modern Holiday Express next door, but I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.

When I first saw the building, I thought it was a small church.

 It's a really nice bath.

 Sonic napping.
Bed time!

Starting tomorrow, I probably won't have internet, so hold out till I'm back in Ottawa next week.

  1. Thanks, Michael, you have posted lots of stories , maybe you need to take a rest then show us more surprise.
In my mind, Eastern Canada is very quiet, not like Fort McMurray, the town is small, but is noisy.
Recently I am not happy, I feed birds and some birds sleep over night at our backyard, yesterday, i found that a bird died under the deck. I do not know why this happened.

    1. Yeah, but the food has been nothing special. Unless you want pics of McDonald's and Tim Hortons.
